Celebrate National Car Keeping Month

May 12, 2016

Did you know May is National Car Keeping Month? Every year, American motorists are encouraged to treat their cars like they would their homes and their own health in order to get them ready for the rigors of summer. Hotter temperatures and road trips can put a lot of unnecessary stress on your car, and now’s the time to give our rides a little extra TLC. Help extend the life of your vehicle with these Tint World car care tips.

At Tint World, we take pride in maintaining not only our customers’ cars, but our own rides as well. To celebrate National Car Keeping Month, here are our top four ways to maintain and preserve your car, truck or SUV not matter how old or young it may be:

  1. Change your fluids: With summer just starting, even hotter temperatures are right around the corner. Having your fluids such as engine coolant, engine oil, transmission fluid, differential fluid and power steering fluid inspected and changed is a good way to keep your car at operating temperature and well lubricated. A radiator flush is a good idea to help clear out any containments that may be blocking your engine’s cooling system, making it run hotter than recommended. Having your oil changed is also a good idea, especially if you live in a hot climate. If you do, check your owner’s manual as some manufacturers recommend changing the oil viscosity during summer months to help the engine run smoother in the heat.
  2. Check your tire pressure: The air in your tires plays a huge role in fuel economy and handling. During the winter, air pressure can actually escape, leaving you with underinflated tires. The less pressure you have, the more friction is created when you’re rolling down the road. This causes your engine to work harder, ultimately decreasing fuel economy and increasing your chances of a dangerous blowout. Make sure your tires are inflated to the manufacturers specifications either found on your driver’s door seal or in your owner’s manual.
  3. Upgrade your air filter: When your engine can breathe better, it will run better. Upgrading your air filter to a premium product can help improve the efficiency and power delivery of your vehicle. Cold air intake systems can increase this benefit even more by allowing denser, colder air to enter your engine.
  4. Have it detailed: A clean car is a happy car, so protect it from harsh sunlight, road debris and summertime dirt with a professional detail. While you’re at it, consider having paint protection film installed to add an even extra layer of summertime protection. This will protect against paint chips and door dings commonly earned during summertime motoring.
