Positive Reinforcement is Key to Team Success

Is your team excited to come to work every day? Are they invested in your company’s brand and mission? Are they driven to do their absolute best for every customer, every day?

That’s the gold standard for all managers, isn’t it? To get a team of rock stars pulling together and manifesting the company values. But it’s harder to achieve than you might think. No matter how hard you try, the workday routine can become just that — routine. Your team members might get bored or distracted, or personal problems might creep into their workdays.

Plant Seeds for Success

Any manager needs to be prepared to proactively mitigate poor work performance, but you can create an environment that encourages stellar work performance in a positive way.

Make it a priority to celebrate success in your workplace. Find ways to track and reward the ideal performance you’re looking for in your team. Here are some easy and fun ideas to celebrate your team:

  1. Make it Public: Weave into your company culture a practice of recognizing success in front of the entire team. Not only will your employees feel pride at being acknowledged in front of their peers, but this will incentivize others to up their game.
  2. Make it Fun: Gamification is all the rage as a way to motivate things like diet, exercise and more. It will work in your business, too. Certain levels of achievement can reap rewards like a prize drawing, free lunch or even special pins for their work uniforms.
  3. Make it Personal: No amount of rewards trumps a personal thank-you from the boss. When employees are meeting and exceeding expectations, a personal, sincere expression of gratitude is in order. Let them know their efforts are important to you.

Follow Through
