They say good help is hard to find, and with the unemployment rate hovering just under 4 percent in the U.S., that saying is even more true in 2019. It’s a job candidate’s market, which is great news for workers, not-so-great for employers.Blocks show the importance of recruiting the right people.

Recruiting, hiring and training a new employee is a time-consuming, labor-intensive task, taking you away from the important work of running your franchise location. And delay can have consequences for the rest of your team. Employee morale will suffer as they pick up the work of the missing team member, or you’ll stretch yourself too thin covering that work yourself.

Hiring the wrong person means that you have to start the process all over again and take a hit to your bottom line. Some estimates place the cost of one bad hire around $17,000. So, it’s important to get it right the first time. Here are some ways to ease the hiring process and make sure you find the right people to create your franchise team.

  1. Lean into culture: In an employee’s job market, job searchers have plenty of choices. They can find employers willing to pay the salary they want with the benefits they want. But no one can replicate your company culture and values. Be authentic with your company culture and the right fit will find you.
  2. Make a broad search: Put your job listings on as many major employment platforms as you can, and include social media platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. You never know who might be looking — or who will share your ad with a job-hunting friend.
  3. Outsource the search: Recruiters and job placement agencies are a great resource for filling out your team. They have the expertise and tools to screen job candidates and make sure only the best make it to the interview phase.
